Mission Profile

Lunar Gateway (Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway, LOP-G) is the planned international lunar orbital station being developed under NASA's Artemis program, with contributions from ESA, JAXA, CSA, and commercial partners for a small, modular outpost in a near-rectilinear halo orbit around the Moon. The Gateway will serve as a staging point for Artemis lunar surface missions and a platform for science experiments, starting with the Power and Propulsion Element and Habitation and Logistics Outpost modules targeted for launch in the late 2020s. Unlike the ISS, Gateway will not be permanently crewed, receiving astronaut visits during Artemis missions lasting weeks at a time. The station provides sustainable cislunar infrastructure enabling multiple landing sites including the lunar south pole, supporting both NASA lunar science priorities and international partnership goals.
