Mission Profile

Apollo Lunar Module Truck was a concept from around 1968 for a modified Apollo Lunar Module configured to carry large cargo payloads to the lunar surface rather than a crew, by removing the ascent stage and converting the resulting single-stage vehicle into an automated cargo delivery system. The Truck would have been flown robotically using a guidance system, landing near a crewed base to deliver large equipment, propellant, or construction materials that exceeded what crewed missions could carry. The concept was studied as part of planning for extended Apollo program logistics and permanent lunar bases but was never developed as the Apollo program was curtailed before such infrastructure missions could be attempted.
