Mission Profile

The Saturn V (SA-500 series, Apollo Launch Vehicle) was a three-stage American super-heavy launch vehicle in the Saturn family, the most powerful rocket ever to complete a successful orbital flight and the vehicle that carried humans to the Moon. Standing 110.6 m tall with a 10.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 2,970 tonnes, it generated 35,100 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 140,000 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in November 1967 under the Apollo programme, the Saturn V launched all crewed lunar missions from Apollo 8 through Apollo 17 as well as the Skylab space station, standing as the defining engineering achievement of the Space Race.
