Mission Profile

Aditya-L1 is India's first dedicated solar observation spacecraft, launched on 2 September 2023 aboard a PSLV-C57 rocket and successfully inserted into a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth L1 Lagrange point in January 2024. The spacecraft carries seven scientific payloads to study the solar corona, chromosphere, photosphere, and solar wind, including the VELC coronagraph, SUIT ultraviolet imager, and various particle and field sensors. Aditya-L1 makes India the fourth entity to place a spacecraft at the Sun-Earth L1 point after NASA, ESA, and JAXA, and is ISRO's first space science mission in the inner solar system. The mission contributes to the global effort to understand solar dynamics and improve space weather prediction.
