SVOM
🇨🇳Mission Profile
SVOM (Space Variable Objects Monitor) is a joint Chinese-French X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy satellite launched in June 2024, designed to detect and rapidly localize gamma-ray bursts and other high-energy transient events to enable rapid follow-up observations from ground and space-based telescopes. The mission builds on the heritage of the Swift and INTEGRAL satellites, combining a wide-field burst detector, an X-ray telescope, and an optical monitor to provide multi-wavelength characterization of transients in near real time. SVOM's unique orbit allows simultaneous visibility from Chinese and French ground stations for rapid alert dissemination to the global astronomy community. The mission represents a major step in the ongoing China-France space science collaboration.
