Mission Profile

Blue Moon Mark 2 is Blue Origin's planned crewed lunar lander variant, designed to transport NASA astronauts from lunar orbit to the surface and back as part of the Artemis program's Human Landing System. Building on the uncrewed cargo Mark 1 variant, the Mark 2 features a crew cabin, life support systems, and additional propellant capacity for the crewed lunar descent and ascent. Blue Origin was selected by NASA in 2023 for a second HLS contract alongside SpaceX Starship, with Mark 2 targeting crewed demonstrations in the early 2030s. The lander would launch atop a New Glenn rocket and perform multiple in-space propellant transfers before final lunar descent, using liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen engines for maximum propellant efficiency.
