Mission Profile

Gemini Satellite Inspector was a 1965 US Air Force concept for a modified Gemini spacecraft with extended rendezvous and inspection capability, designed to approach Soviet satellites and conduct visual or photographic reconnaissance of their configuration and purpose. The concept would have equipped Gemini with additional propellant and sensors to conduct extended proximity operations around targets of interest, representing an early vision of the satellite servicing and inspection mission that would later be pursued by various programs. The Gemini Satellite Inspector concept was not funded as a dedicated program, as classified reconnaissance satellites and ground-based intelligence methods were deemed more practical for the near-term objective of monitoring Soviet space assets.
