Mission Profile

HTV-X is JAXA's next-generation cargo resupply spacecraft, designed to succeed the original H-II Transfer Vehicle (Kounotori) and provide logistics support for the International Space Station and potentially the Lunar Gateway. Featuring a new solar-electric propulsion system that dramatically reduces propellant consumption, HTV-X would be capable of loitering in orbit for months before final approach — a capability potentially useful for Gateway logistics where precise rendezvous windows are constrained. The vehicle builds on HTV heritage while incorporating lessons learned from commercial cargo spacecraft and extending mission duration and flexibility.
