Mission Profile

The H3-22S is the baseline configuration of Japan's next-generation H3 launch vehicle, developed by JAXA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a more affordable and flexible successor to the H-IIA. Standing 57 m tall with a 5.2 m diameter core and a liftoff mass of 574 tonnes, it is powered by twin LE-9 first-stage engines producing a combined 7,258 kN of thrust. With a LEO capacity of 6,500 kg, the H3-22S is designed to make Japan internationally competitive in the commercial launch market while continuing to serve domestic government payload requirements.
