Vikram
🇮🇳Mission Profile
Vikram is India's lunar lander, part of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which successfully soft-landed near the lunar south pole on 23 August 2023 — making India the fourth nation to land on the Moon and the first to land near the lunar south pole. Named after Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program, the 1,749 kg lander deployed the Pragyan rover and conducted its own science investigations including seismic measurements and thermal property measurements of the regolith. Vikram employed hazard detection and avoidance technology refined from the Chandrayaan-2 Vikram lander failure, making a precision landing with fuel to spare. The lander entered sleep mode after the first lunar day and has not been confirmed to have revived through subsequent lunar nights.
