Mission Profile

Peregrine is Astrobotic Technology's commercial lunar lander, launched on 8 January 2024 aboard United Launch Alliance's inaugural Vulcan Centaur VC2S flight as part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. A propellant leak shortly after separation from the launch vehicle prevented the spacecraft from achieving a successful lunar landing, though Astrobotic maintained partial control and collected valuable engineering data before the spacecraft reentered and burned up over the Pacific Ocean on 18 January 2024. Despite the failure, Peregrine demonstrated the viability of the CLPS commercial approach and provided lessons that informed Astrobotic's follow-on Griffin lander mission. It was the first American lunar landing attempt since Apollo 17 in 1972.
