Mission Profile

Hope (Emirates Mars Mission, Misbar Al-Amal) is the UAE's first interplanetary probe and the Arab world's first mission to Mars, launched on 20 July 2020 aboard an H-IIA rocket from Japan and entering Mars orbit on 9 February 2021. The probe studies the Martian atmosphere's daily and seasonal weather cycles and the mechanisms by which Mars loses hydrogen and oxygen to space using three instruments: an infrared spectrometer, a UV spectrometer, and a visible-infrared imager. Hope is the first mission designed to provide a global, year-round picture of Mars's weather rather than focusing on a specific region. The mission's success represents a landmark achievement for UAE space ambitions and inspired a new generation of Arab scientists and engineers.
