Mission Profile

TALISE (Titan Lake In-situ Sampling Propelled Explorer) was a proposed ESA/Spanish concept for a nuclear-powered boat that would navigate the hydrocarbon seas of Titan, particularly Ligeia Mare, conducting in-situ chemistry measurements of the liquid methane/ethane environment. Proposed around 2012 as a New Frontiers class mission concept, TALISE would have used a propeller or paddle-wheel system to explore hundreds of kilometers of Titan's largest northern sea over a three-year mission. The concept was not selected for development but contributed to growing scientific interest in Titan sea exploration that culminated in the broader TSSM proposal and eventually influenced the Dragonfly rotorcraft mission.
