Sentinel-2
🇪🇺Mission Profile
Sentinel-2 is ESA's twin-satellite optical Earth observation constellation, a core component of the Copernicus Programme providing high-resolution multispectral imagery of Earth's land surfaces for vegetation monitoring, land cover mapping, and disaster response. Launched beginning June 2015 aboard Vega rockets, Sentinel-2A and 2B together provide global coverage every five days at 10 meter resolution in four visible and near-infrared bands, with additional 20 and 60-meter bands for atmospheric correction and detailed vegetation characterization. Sentinel-2 data has become the world's most widely used free satellite imagery, supporting precision agriculture, forest monitoring, coastal zone management, and humanitarian emergency response across every continent. The combination of high resolution, frequent revisit, and free data access has transformed operational land monitoring at regional and global scales.
