Mission Profile

Bangabandhu-1 is Bangladesh's first geostationary communications satellite, launched on 12 May 2018 aboard a Falcon 9 to geostationary orbit at 119.1° East, providing digital broadcast, VSAT broadband, and DTH television services to Bangladesh and neighboring countries. Built by Thales Alenia Space and operated by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the satellite provides coverage of Bangladesh, South Asia, and the Bay of Bengal region. Bangabandhu-1 made Bangladesh the 57th nation to own a geostationary communications satellite, reducing its dependence on leased satellite capacity from foreign operators for government communications, disaster response, and broadband connectivity.
