PRISMA
🇮🇹PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa
Mission Profile
PRISMA (PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa) is an Italian Earth observation satellite equipped with a hyperspectral and panchromatic imaging system, launched aboard a Vega rocket from Kourou in March 2019. The satellite operates from a 615 km sun-synchronous orbit with a hyperspectral sensor providing 240 spectral bands between 400 and 2500 nm wavelengths at 30-meter spatial resolution, enabling detailed analysis of vegetation health, soil composition, mineral mapping, and coastal water quality. PRISMA's hyperspectral data is particularly valuable for agricultural monitoring, environmental assessment, and geological mapping, complementing the multispectral Sentinel and other Copernicus program satellites with far finer spectral discrimination.
