Mission Profile

JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) is ESA's flagship planetary science mission launched on 14 April 2023 aboard an Ariane 5 ECA+, designed to study Jupiter's three large ocean-bearing moons — Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa — in the context of Jupiter's complex environment. JUICE will conduct multiple flybys of all three moons before entering orbit around Ganymede in 2034, making it the first spacecraft to orbit a moon other than Earth's own. Its ten science instruments will characterize the extent and properties of the subsurface oceans, surface compositions and geology, and assess each moon's potential habitability. JUICE represents Europe's most ambitious planetary science mission and will work in coordination with NASA's Europa Clipper spacecraft, also en route to the Jupiter system.
