Mission Profile

VERA Station (Venus Entry Research and Analysis Station) represents the class of proposed atmospheric flight vehicles and station concepts for the Venusian atmosphere, where buoyancy-based platforms can operate at 50-60 km altitude in a surprisingly Earth-like environment of roughly 1 atm pressure, moderate temperatures, and abundant solar energy — despite the hellish conditions on the surface below. Various NASA, ESA, and academic studies have proposed VAMP (Venus Atmospheric Maneuverable Platform), High Altitude Venus Operational Concept (HAVOC), and similar concepts for long-duration atmospheric exploration. Such stations represent potentially the most cost-effective way to study Venus up close and might even host human crews in the distant future.
