Genesis II
🇺🇸Mission Profile
Genesis II is the second Bigelow Aerospace inflatable habitat prototype, launched on 28 June 2007 aboard a Dnepr rocket from Russia to a 550 km orbit, following up on the successful Genesis I mission in 2006. The cylindrical module measures 4.4 meters long and 2.54 meters in diameter when deployed, testing Bigelow's expandable structure technology with monitors, cameras, and assorted payloads from science organizations and space enthusiasts. Genesis II has operated for well over a decade and continues to return telemetry data, validating the durability of Bigelow's multi-layer soft-goods construction in the space environment. Together, Genesis I and II demonstrated the viability of inflatable habitat technology that scaled up to the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) tested aboard the ISS from 2016.
