Mission Profile

The Energia Polyus (Early Design) (11K25, Skif-DM) was a proposed two-stage Soviet super-heavy launch vehicle concept in the Energia family, an early design configuration studied for launching the Polyus orbital weapons platform under the Energia programme. Standing approximately 60 m tall with a 7.7 m core diameter and a projected liftoff mass of 2,400 tonnes, it would have generated 34,840 kN of thrust. Conceived around 1985, this early Polyus configuration evolved into the vehicle that launched the Polyus/Skif-DM spacecraft on the Energia maiden flight in May 1987.
