Mission Profile

The Atlas SLV3 Burner 2 was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, pairing an Atlas SLV-3 first stage with a Burner 2 solid-fuelled upper stage for military satellite deployment. Standing 28 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 120 tonnes, it generated 1,740 kN of liftoff thrust. First flying in August 1968, the Atlas SLV3 Burner 2 launched military navigation, communications, and scientific satellites.
