Mission Profile

The Kosmos-3 (11K65, Kosmos 3 launch vehicle) was a two-stage Soviet launch vehicle in the R-14 family, derived from the R-14 Chusovaya medium-range ballistic missile for small satellite orbital delivery. Standing 32.4 m tall with a 2.4 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 109 tonnes, it generated 1,474 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 1,400 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in November 1966, the Kosmos-3 launched military and scientific satellites before being succeeded by the more capable Kosmos-3M.
