Mission Profile

The Titan IIIB (SLV-5B) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Titan family, pairing a Titan II core with an Agena D upper stage for classified military satellite launches. Standing 35.4 m tall with a 3.1 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 159 tonnes, it generated 1,913 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 3,600 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in July 1966, the Titan IIIB became a workhorse for launching KH-8 Gambit reconnaissance satellites and other classified payloads into polar orbits from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
