Mission Profile

Soyuz-FG (11A511U-FG) is a modernized variant of the Soyuz-U featuring an upgraded NK-33-derived first-stage propulsion system with improved combustion efficiency and reliability. Standing 49.3 meters tall with a 310,000 kg launch mass and 7,130 kg to LEO, it first flew on 20 May 2001 and became the primary human-rated Soyuz variant carrying ISS crews from 2002 until being superseded by the Soyuz-2.1a in 2020. Soyuz-FG was the vehicle that carried every astronaut to the International Space Station during the Space Shuttle's final years and the transition to commercial crew vehicles.
