Mission Profile

Atlas II is the first dedicated commercial production variant of the Atlas launch vehicle, featuring upgraded Rocketdyne MA-5A engines and a longer Centaur II upper stage with increased propellant capacity. Standing 47.5 meters tall with a 6,580 kg GTO capability, it first flew on 7 December 1991 and served commercial telecommunications satellite operators through the mid-1990s. Atlas II flew 10 consecutive successful missions establishing the reliability foundation for the improved Atlas IIA and Atlas IIAS variants.
