The Ariane 44LP Hermes (Hermes-X-2000) was a proposed three-stage European launch vehicle concept in the Ariane family, an Ariane 4 variant studied as a potential launcher for the Hermes crewed spaceplane under the Hermes programme. Standing 58.4 m tall with a 3.8 m diameter and a projected liftoff mass of 418 tonnes, it would have generated 4,688 kN of liftoff thrust. Conceived around 1985, the Ariane 44LP Hermes concept was abandoned when the Hermes programme was cancelled in favour of developing the Ariane 5 as the Hermes launch vehicle.
