Mission Profile

The Delta J (Thor-Delta J, DSV-3J) was a three-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, a variant with improved upper stage performance for increased payload capacity. Standing 28 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 57 tonnes, it generated 758 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 480 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in July 1968, the Delta J launched the first Intelsat III communication satellite, marking the Delta's growing role in commercial communications satellite deployment.
