Mission Profile

The Start-1 (Start-1 SLV, RT-2PM Topol derived) was a four-stage Russian solid-fuelled launch vehicle in the RT-2 family, a smaller variant of the Start converted from retired Topol ICBMs for small satellite delivery. Standing 22.7 m tall with a 1.8 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 47 tonnes, it generated 1,770 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 532 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 1993, the Start-1 launched small satellites from road-mobile launchers at Plesetsk and Svobodny cosmodromes.
