Mission Profile

Atlas IIAS is an improved commercial Atlas launch vehicle featuring four Thiokol Castor IVA solid rocket boosters strapped to the Atlas II core stage for enhanced GTO performance. Standing 47.5 meters tall with a 237,000 kg liftoff mass and 8,640 kg GTO capacity, it first flew on 16 December 1993 and became a reliable workhorse for commercial communications satellite deployments through the late 1990s. Atlas IIAS flew 23 consecutive successful missions during its operational career.
