Mission Profile
Shtil' 2.1 is a proposed upgraded variant of Russia's submarine-launched Shtil space launch vehicle, derived from the R-29 SLBM and featuring a modified second stage for slightly improved payload capacity to low Earth orbit. Studied around 2010, the 14.8-meter vehicle with a 40-tonne launch mass represented an incremental performance improvement over the operational Shtil-1 that launched from submarines in the Barents Sea. The concept remained a design study without progressing to flight hardware.
