Mission Profile

The Liberty (ATK Liberty Launch Vehicle, ATK-Astrium Liberty) was a proposed single-stage American solid rocket booster concept in the STS family, a suborbital test article studied by ATK and Astrium under the Liberty programme. Standing approximately 30 m tall with a 2.6 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 33 tonnes, it was a subscale demonstrator. Conceived around 2012, the Liberty concept explored combining Shuttle-derived solid rocket technology with European cryogenic upper stage expertise but was not pursued to flight.
