Mission Profile

The Ariane 5 GS (Ariane 5 Generic Storable, A5GS) was a two-stage European launch vehicle in the Ariane family, a variant with a storable-propellant upper stage optimised for heavy government and institutional payloads. Standing 52 m tall with a 5.4 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 760 tonnes, it generated 12,940 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 6,800 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in August 2005, the Ariane 5 GS was used for a limited number of missions before the Ariane 5 ECA became the standard production variant.
