Mission Profile

The L-4SS (Lambda-4S Special) was a four-stage Japanese solid-fuelled sounding rocket in the Lambda family, a modified variant of the Lambda-4S used for suborbital test flights. First flying in August 1971, the L-4SS was part of the University of Tokyo's continuing programme of solid rocket development following the Lambda-4S's historic achievement of placing Japan's first satellite Ohsumi into orbit in 1970.
