Mission Profile

The KAIROS (Kii-based Advanced & Instant Rocket System) is a three-to-four-stage Japanese solid-fuelled small launch vehicle developed by Space One for dedicated small satellite delivery. Standing 18 m tall with a 1.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 23 tonnes, it can deliver 250 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 2024, the KAIROS suffered a failure on its maiden flight but represents Japan's growing private space launch sector and the ambition to provide rapid small satellite launch services from the Kii Peninsula.
