Mission Profile

The Delta IV HLV (Delta IV Heavy) was a proposed two-stage American heavy-lift launch vehicle concept in the Delta family, the triple-core Delta IV Heavy configuration studied under early EELV programme planning. Standing 72 m tall with a 5.1 m core diameter and a projected liftoff mass of 733 tonnes, it would have generated 9,420 kN of thrust and delivered 23,040 kg to low Earth orbit. Conceived around 2002 under the EELV programme, this early Delta IV Heavy concept evolved into the vehicle that first flew in 2004 and became the most powerful American launch vehicle prior to the Falcon Heavy.
