Mission Profile

The Falcon 1 (SpaceX Falcon 1) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Falcon 1 family, SpaceX's first orbital rocket and the first privately developed liquid-fuelled rocket to reach orbit. Standing 21.3 m tall with a 1.7 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 38.6 tonnes, it generated 454 kN of first-stage thrust and could deliver 670 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 2006, the Falcon 1 reached orbit on its fourth attempt in September 2008, proving that a privately funded company could develop and launch an orbital rocket and laying the foundation for the Falcon 9.
