Mission Profile

The Titan IIIB 24 (Titan IIIB(24)) was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Titan family, a variant using a stretched 24-segment solid Titan first stage for increased performance. Standing 35.4 m tall with a 3.1 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 159 tonnes, it generated 1,913 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 3,600 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in August 1971, the Titan IIIB 24 launched classified military reconnaissance satellites including the KH-8 Gambit programme payloads into polar orbits from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
