Mission Profile

The Long March 1 (CZ-1) was a three-stage Chinese launch vehicle in the Long March 1 family, derived from the DF-4 intermediate-range ballistic missile and the rocket that launched China's first satellite. Standing 29.9 m tall with a 2.3 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 81.6 tonnes, it generated 1,040 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 300 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in April 1970, the Long March 1 placed China's first satellite Dongfanghong-1 into orbit, making China the fifth nation to independently launch a satellite.
