Mission Profile

The Delta 2914 (Thor-Delta 2914) was a three-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, using nine Castor II solid rocket augmentation motors and a PAM-D third stage for moderate geostationary transfer orbit capability. Standing 35.4 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 195 tonnes, it generated 3,310 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 1,010 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in April 1974, the Delta 2914 was the most popular Delta variant of the late 1970s and early 1980s, launching dozens of commercial and government communications and weather satellites.
