Mission Profile

The Juno II (3 stage) (Juno 2, 3 stage) was a three-stage American launch vehicle in the Jupiter family, using a Jupiter IRBM first stage with a cluster of solid-fuelled upper stages under the Explorer programme. Standing 24 m tall with a 2.7 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 55.2 tonnes, it generated 667 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in August 1959, the three-stage Juno II was used for high-energy missions including Pioneer lunar probes and Explorer scientific satellites.
