Mission Profile

The Juno I 5-stage (Juno 1 5-stage) was a five-stage American launch vehicle in the Redstone family, a modified Jupiter C with an additional fifth stage for increased orbital injection velocity under the Explorer programme. Standing 21.2 m tall with a 1.8 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 29.1 tonnes, it generated 370 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in October 1958, the five-stage Juno I was used for several Explorer satellite missions following the historic Explorer 1 launch that used the four-stage configuration.
