Mission Profile

The Blue Scout 1 (SLV-1A, RM-89) was a four-stage American sounding and test rocket in the Scout family, a military variant used for high-altitude reentry vehicle testing and atmospheric research. Standing 20 m tall with a 1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 9.7 tonnes, it generated 464 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in January 1961, the Blue Scout 1 launched reentry vehicle experiments and radiation measurement payloads to extreme altitudes for the US Air Force.
