Mission Profile

The ASLV (Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle) was a five-stage Indian launch vehicle in the SLV-3 family, an augmented version of the SLV-3 with two strap-on solid boosters for increased payload capacity. Standing 23.5 m tall with a 1 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 40 tonnes, it generated 1,506 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 150 kg to low Earth orbit. First flying in March 1987, the ASLV suffered two early failures before achieving success, providing valuable experience that contributed to India's development of the highly successful PSLV.
