Mission Profile

The Aerobee XASR-SC-1 was a two-stage American sounding rocket in the Aerobee family, one of the earliest purpose-built American research rockets designed for upper atmosphere and solar physics investigations. Standing 6 m tall with a 0.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 750 kg, it generated 12 kN of sustainer thrust after a solid-fuelled booster separation. First flying in December 1948, the Aerobee was one of the most prolific sounding rockets in history, eventually flying over a thousand missions and establishing the foundation for American high-altitude research.
