Mission Profile

The Atlas SLV3D Centaur D1AR was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, a further improved variant of the Atlas-Centaur with an upgraded Centaur stage featuring RL10A-3-3A engines. Standing 41 m tall with a 3.1 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 148 tonnes, it generated 2,087 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 4,760 kg to low Earth orbit or 1,860 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in September 1975, the Atlas SLV3D Centaur D1AR launched Intelsat communications satellites and NASA planetary probes during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
