Mission Profile

The Unha 2 (은하 2호, Galaxy 2) was a three-stage North Korean launch vehicle in the Unha family, an improved variant of the Unha-1 with greater range and payload capacity. Standing 30 m tall with a 2.4 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 85 tonnes, it generated 1,200 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in April 2009, the Unha 2 attempted to place a satellite into orbit but the third stage failed to separate and the payload did not reach orbit, despite North Korean claims of success.
