Mission Profile

The Thor DM-18 Able 2 (modified) was a two-to-three-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, a modified Thor-Able variant with an additional solid kick stage under the Thor IRBM Program. Standing 27 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 49.9 tonnes, it generated 667 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in September 1959, the Thor DM-18 Able 2 was used for early military and scientific suborbital and orbital test missions.
