Mission Profile

The Energia M (early design) (Energia-M, Vulkan-M) was a proposed two-stage Soviet medium-to-heavy-lift launch vehicle concept in the Energia family, a smaller derivative using two Energia strap-on boosters and a scaled core stage. Standing approximately 48 m tall with a 7.7 m diameter and a projected liftoff mass of 1,023 tonnes, it would have generated 16,016 kN of liftoff thrust and delivered 34,000 kg to low Earth orbit. Conceived around 1988 under the Energia programme, the Energia M was intended to provide a more affordable Energia-derived vehicle for routine heavy payloads but was cancelled with the collapse of the Soviet space programme.
