Mission Profile

The Thor DSV2J (Thor-DSV-2J, Long Tank Thor) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Delta family, an extended-tank Thor variant providing increased propellant capacity under the Thor IRBM Program. Standing 23.5 m tall with a 2.4 m diameter and a liftoff mass of 52.2 tonnes, it generated 758 kN of first-stage thrust. First flying in February 1964, the Thor DSV2J launched military reconnaissance and surveillance satellites into polar orbits from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
