Mission Profile

The Atlas IIA (Atlas IIA Centaur) was a two-stage American launch vehicle in the Atlas family, an improved version of the Atlas II with upgraded Centaur upper stage engines for increased geostationary transfer orbit performance. Standing 47.5 m tall with a 3.1 m core diameter and a liftoff mass of 204.3 tonnes, it generated 2,320 kN of liftoff thrust and could deliver 7,280 kg to low Earth orbit or 3,062 kg to geostationary transfer orbit. First flying in June 1992, the Atlas IIA became a reliable workhorse for commercial and government satellite launches, bridging the gap between the Atlas II and the Atlas III/V evolution.
